Cassie and Jessica's Story

Big Sister Cassie and Little Sister Jessica have been matched since January 2006, and their match is doing tremendously well. Jessica is 9 years old and lives with her mother, grandmother and 11-year old brother. Her brother has a Big Brother also.

Cassie is single and a recent graduate of UC. She was a mentor in high school and enjoyed the experience so she decided to become a Big Sister. She calls Jessica the “best Little Sister ever!”

Jessica’s mom thinks Cassie and Jessica are perfect together. They have gone to the mall, to the movies, decorated tee shirts, decorated Cassie’s house for Christmas, dyed Easter eggs, played board games, gone to the dog park to play with Cassie’s dog, cooked meals, and done lots of craft activities.

Jessica thinks Cassie is a lot of fun. She says Cassie sings when she drives and Jessica laughs at her but also joins in singing. Jessica’s mom tells Cassie that she is so thankful for Cassie and that Jessica really loves spending time with her. Cassie says it makes her feel good to be so appreciated and to know that she really is making a difference in a child’s life.

Cassie and Jessica are a great match and demonstrate the powerful effect mentoring can have on a child. Together they’re experiencing new daily pleasures and creating wonderful memories.
