Community-based mentoring is the traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters relationship, where Bigs and Littles get together on their own to share fun activities they both enjoy. Matches typically meet for 2-4 hours a week.
Getting together is a great time for both the Big and the Little. It doesn’t require a special occasion or expensive activities; just a few hours every week to share the simple things you already like to do. Things like….
- Shooting hoops
- Playing a board game
- Sharing a pizza
- Taking a walk in the park
- Or just hanging out and talking.

In school mentoring programs, Bigs and Littles meet for one-to-one mentoring for an hour and a half in the classroom, school library, school computer room, neighborhood community center, or other set location. Bigs and Littles typically meet once a week to read together, play sports or computer games, or simply talk about life and personal issues – just as friends do.
School-based mentoring is not a tutoring program. However, research has shown that of all children matched with a Big in school:
- 58% improved their school performance
- 65% showed higher levels of self-confidence
- 55% had a better attitude toward school
Many times, employers will give work release time so that you can mentor during your workday. Want to get involved? Fill out our application! You can also learn more about volunteering.

After school mentoring programs, Bigs and Littles meet for one-to-one mentoring for 1-2 hours after school. Bigs and Littles typically meet once a week to do homework together, play sports or computer games, or simply talk about life and personal issues – just as friends do. All activities take place on site, with no travel required. Our Big Brothers Big Sisters Coordinator will be on site to plan activities and to support your match.

COUL Club Mentoring- Volunteers go on planned events with unmatched Littles. Activities are planned twice a month in the summer and are quarterly during the school year. We would like for volunteers to help with two events per year (or more if you like!).
