In our own lives, each of us was touched by someone—other than our parents—who introduced us to new worlds and brought a little magic into our lives. Maybe it was a next door neighbor who took you on your first fishing trip and taught you how to bait a hook, or a favorite aunt who taught you how to plant seeds and grow your own sunflowers, or a camp counselor who showed you how to roast a marshmallow to perfection and make a s’more.

You probably still remember that person with a smile today. Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is about enjoying simple, everyday moments like these with a child—broadening horizons and sharing new experiences… and you will both be forever changed by the experience. Quick Steps to Become a Big

Here are the quick and easy steps we'll walk you through:

• Ready to take the next step or want to find out more? Complete the  online application. A Customer Relations Specialist will contact you to schedule an interview.
• An Enrollment Specialist will interview you in person at a convenient time and place. Behind the scenes we will conduct appropriate background checks - child safety is a high priority!
• We will match you with a child who is the best fit for you.  Making the right match is important to our commitment to form lasting relationships. 

Spending Time with Your Little
Once matched, Big Brothers and Big Sisters develop friendships with their Little Brothers and Little Sisters.  Whether playing a computer game or simply hanging out - you bring magic into the life of a child.  It's that simple.  It's that powerful!

School-based matches meet in schools or after school for one to two hours each week. It is usually a set day and time.   They do projects together, read in the library, eat lunch, shoot hoops, talk and more. 

Community-based matches are flexible and will fit your busy schedule.  Bigs and Littles hang out in the community and go to museums, sports events, movies, and more.  It's up to you and your Little!

We'll Support Your Friendship
When you're part of something Big, you're not alone. Each match is supported by professional staff at Big Brothers Big Sisters.  Match Support Specialists regularly check in with volunteers, children, and parents, and are always available to answer questions. 

Regular matched activities/events are held throughout the year, giving you an opportunity to meet other Bigs and Littles.  Plus, through the generosity of our partners and individuals in your community, there are often free tickets to ball games, the theater, and more!
